Dear fellow Washintonian,
Those of us who live in this great State of Washington are understandably worried at the fiscal irresponsibility that we see in Olympia. Our state representatives believe what's good for us is more government regulation and higher taxes. You and I are now seeing the results of those policies as the legislators scramble to find a way to plug the deficit holes in the state budget. Unfortunately their solution is to tax our citizens more rather then reduce government spending and eliminate wasteful programs. Input from the business community has largely been ignored. Instead, restrictions, regulations and burdensome taxes provide a disincentive for businesses to prosper and provide those new jobs that are so desperately needed.
I believe that we can do better and as your State Representative I will work to find solutions to our current fiscal crisis that will be sustainable for the long term. This will require doing the people's business in Olympia differently than it has been done in the past. Ignoring or preventing performance audits by our State Auditor is a too common practice that allowed representatives to avoid the reality check and pass fantasy legislation. Failure to understand the core duties and responsibilities that state government owes its citizens is at the heart of the problem. The common sense approach to problem solving seems to be a lost art in our state government. Reaching out to the business community in order to take advantage of their expertise and input is often dismissed out of hand by our legislators, often with the "I know what is best for you" attitude.
As a candidate for State Representative in the 38th, I believe I can make a difference in Olympia that will reflect your vision of what responsible state government can do for its citizens. I have a passion, because of my love of country, which has kept my interest in giving American heritage flag presentations for the passed 25 years to hundreds of schools and numerous organizations. By using my historical American flags I tell our American story by giving short histories of each flag in my presentations.

While working at GTE in the 1990's, the GTE corporate labor negotiators and employee representatives agreed to disregard the Veterans Day holiday of November 11th. They decided to have a floating holiday instead which effectively hollowed out the meaning of Veterans Day. Dozens of letters protesting this change were sent from employees to GTE's corporate management, but they were ignored. Hugh Fleet decided to stand up for those who had fallen on our behalf and contacted U.S.Congressman Jack Metcalf from the Second Congressional district.

Our Declaration of Independence refers four times to our Creator, and our liberties depend upon the close connection between God and Country!
When in the course of Human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands, which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal stations to which the laws of nature and of Nature's God entitle them a decent respect to the opinions of mankind that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
